Avoid boiler breakdowns and get winter ready!

BRRRR…ready for winter yet?

Do you need expert advice on how to avoid boiler breakdowns? As the days are getting colder, the nights are drawing in we are all turning up the heating. Due to these unprecedented times, we’re all staying home a lot more, whether we want to or not.

Before now we would have set our heating on timers for the morning and evening, but for most the heating is now running on constant!. This means a lot more work for your boiler, gas and central heating systems. We know more than most there is nothing worse than the boiler breaking down, no heat or hot water, well maybe there are worse things, but these are definitely up there at the top for problems we all would like to avoid.

Here is our advice to help avoid these problems and be ready for the winter months;

  • Check and make sure you have had your free annual service if you have our care cover plan. If you are not sure or think it is due, call our office to find out and book one in.
  • Avoid emergency call our charges by making sure your boiler and heating systems are covered with our annual care plan if you do not have one. This will ensure you are covered if the worse does happen and give you peace of mind.
  • If you don’t think your radiators are giving off the correct temperature or slow to heat up despite you turning up the thermostat, they may be blocked with a build-up of sludge over time. Call us to book in a power flush to clean them out, making them more efficient and run better. It will save you lots of money by not having to turn the heating up more than it needs to be.
  • If you hear that knocking sound coming from your radiators, this could be an indication that they have air trapped and need bleeding. Also that your boiler needs checking to find out where the air is coming from.
  • If you bleed your radiators and find the water is discoloured and brown, you probably need to get them cleaned out with a power flush. This will also save you money in the long run with your heating system.
  • Check the pressure on your boiler is correct from time to time, sometimes we can forget to do this until it’s too late causing the boiler to stop working and worse, break. If you are not sure what the pressure should be, especially if you have lowered the pressure yourself 2 or 3 times and it still increases, call us to take a look.
  • Have you got thermostats on your radiators? If yes great, if no then getting these added will save you a lot of money by controlling the heating around the house and in rooms you are using more or less frequently.

The winter period is a very busy time of year for us, so we encourage all of our customers to be prepared and winter-ready, making sure your boiler and heating systems are in good working order so you can avoid any emergency call outs. During the Christmas bank holidays, we are closed, but we will be running an emergency call out service should your system or boiler breakdown, this is a separate service and cost to our annual care cover and normal call out service charge.

Our prices will increase in Jan 2021, so now is a good time to lock in services and repairs at lower charges.

Stay safe and take care
